Gobi Heat and Kobayashi Hand Warmers Recalled

Gobi Heat and Kobayashi have issued recalls for their rechargeable hand warmers due to serious fire and burn hazards. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recalls, which affect over 82,000 units sold across the United States and Canada.

The recalls involve Gobi Heat's black and gray hand warmers and Kobayashi's white and orange HotHands-branded hand warmers. Both products feature lithium-ion batteries and electrical components that can overheat and ignite, posing significant risks to consumers.

Details of the Recall

Gobi Heat has recalled approximately 5,500 hand warmers in the United States and 47 in Canada. The model number for these hand warmers is 'UT3053'. Consumers are advised to stop using the products immediately and can obtain a full refund or store credit by visiting Gobi Heat's recall webpage. They are instructed to mark the product as "Recalled" before disposal and submit a photo to Gobi Heat.

Kobayashi's recall affects about 77,000 hand warmers in the United States and 72 in Canada. These hand warmers, marked with model number 'H163650', also require consumers to stop use immediately. Consumers should contact Kobayashi for a full refund and follow similar procedures for marking and disposing of the product.

Disposal Instructions

Both companies emphasize the importance of proper disposal of the recalled products. The lithium-ion batteries should not be thrown in the trash or general recycling bins due to their fire risk. Instead, consumers should dispose of them at municipal household hazardous waste collection centers. Before visiting these centers, it is advised to confirm whether they accept recalled lithium-ion batteries.

For more information, consumers can contact Gobi Heat at 888-462-4743 or Kobayashi at 866-534-9986 during business hours. Additional details are available on their respective websites.
