Governor Greg Abbott participated in the ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony for the Dr. Ron A. McMurry MediPlex in Jasper, Texas. The event celebrated the opening of the new medical facility, which aims to enhance healthcare services in the region.

Governor Abbott was joined by several notable figures, including Congressman Brian Babin, Representative Hillary Hickland, Jasper Mayor Clark McClane, Jasper Hospital District President Rodney Norsworthy, and Ray Callas, a past president of the Texas Medical Association. The presence of these officials underscores the significance of the MediPlex to the community.

The Dr. Ron A. McMurry MediPlex is equipped with facilities for dermatology, interventional pain management, and pediatrics. Additionally, it features an air rescue base for the Air Evac Lifeteam, known locally as Air Rescue 3, which will provide critical emergency services to the area.

Dr. Ron McMurry, after whom the MediPlex is named, was an eighth-generation Texan and a United States Army combat veteran. He served as a family physician in Jasper for 40 years and was the director of the Jasper-Newton County Public Health District.

During his tenure, Dr. McMurry was instrumental in expanding healthcare access for low-income Texans and pregnant women.

Governor Abbott highlighted the importance of the MediPlex in the context of broader efforts to improve rural healthcare in Texas. In December, he secured over $1.4 billion in federal funds for the Texas Health and Human Services Commission through the Rural Health Transformation Program. This program will allocate $281 million annually for five years to bolster rural hospitals and clinics across the state.

The opening of the Dr. Ron A. McMurry MediPlex marks a significant step in enhancing healthcare infrastructure in Jasper, reflecting both local dedication and state-level support for rural health initiatives.
