In response to rising diesel costs, Texas Governor Greg Abbott declared a statewide disaster on Monday. This declaration enables the governor to ease certain restrictions on commercial transportation. Set for 30 days but extendable indefinitely, the order permits the broader use of dyed diesel on Texas roads and temporarily suspends state emission rules, contingent upon federal authorization.
Additionally, it raises allowable weights for fuel, agriculture, and timber transports. Governor Abbott has also requested the EPA to waive federal ultra-low sulfur diesel standards.
