Governor Greg Abbott has announced the opening of applications for an estimated $31 million in grants from the Fund for Veterans’ Assistance (FVA). These grants are administered by the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) and are aimed at nonprofit organizations and local government agencies that provide direct services to veterans.

The application portal for these grants opened at 5 p. m. Central time on October 2, 2026, and will remain open until 5 p.

m. Central time on December 2, 2026. This initiative follows the TVC's recent awarding of more than $40 million in FVA grants to 160 organizations during the 2026 Grants Across Texas tour.

The new funding period for the grants covers a term of 24 months, with awards ranging from a minimum of $50,000 to a maximum of $600,000. Organizations may apply for and receive up to three grants, while county governments have the opportunity to receive up to four grants, including a Veteran Treatment Court grant.

Since its inception in 2009, the TVC has awarded more than $400 million through over 1,790 FVA grants. These grants support a variety of services for veterans, including housing modification, rental assistance, homelessness prevention, mental health care, and vocational training.

The FVA grants are categorized into five areas: General Assistance, Housing for Texas Heroes, Veterans Mental Health, Veterans Treatment Courts, and Veteran County Service Offices. Nonprofit organizations and government agencies interested in applying can review the request for applications, eligibility rules, webinars, and FAQs at the TVC's official website.

Veterans seeking assistance can find organizations in their area through the TVC's resources online. This initiative underscores Texas's ongoing commitment to supporting its veteran community through substantial financial assistance and a broad range of services.
