Decathlon America has issued a recall for its Van Rysel GRVL AF bicycles due to a potential crash hazard that poses a risk of serious injury or death. The recall, announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), affects several models of the Van Rysel bicycles, which are designed for off-road gravel riding, road cycling, commuting, and bikepacking.
The issue with the bicycles stems from the front lock nut, which can loosen during use. This defect may cause the front wheel to dislodge, creating a significant crash hazard. As a result, consumers are urged to stop using the recalled bicycles immediately.
Models and Identification
The recall affects specific models of the Van Rysel GRVL AF bicycles. These include the Sword Brown CN FR (model number 8911304), Apex Beige CN FR (model number 8911305), Sword Pink CN FR (model number 8911308), and GRX Black (model number 8929130). These bicycles were sold in various sizes, ranging from x-small to x-large.
Consumers can identify the recalled models by checking the Van Rysel Product ID on the top right of the product label under the frame, which begins with the number 5. Each bicycle also features a model name and a barcode sticker on the frame near the bottom bracket.
Next Steps for Consumers
Decathlon America advises consumers to take the affected bicycles to the nearest Recreational Equipment (REI Co-op) location. There, they can receive a free inspection and repair service for the front fork assembly. For those unable to visit an REI Co-op location, Decathlon Customer Service is available to provide assistance.
Consumers can contact Decathlon Customer Service by calling 415-408-5494 from 9 a. m. to 5 p.
m. PT, Monday through Friday. Alternatively, they can email support.

Decathlon America LLC, based in San Francisco, California, is working in consultation with the CPSC to ensure consumer safety and compliance with federal regulations. The CPSC emphasizes that federal law prohibits the sale of products subject to a recall, whether ordered by the Commission or undertaken voluntarily in consultation with the CPSC.
This recall highlights the ongoing efforts by the CPSC to protect the public from unreasonable risks associated with consumer products. The agency has been instrumental in reducing injuries related to consumer products since its establishment over 50 years ago.
