San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York has been suspended for six regular-season games and fined $500,000 by the NFL following his arrest in Ohio. The NFL announced the disciplinary actions on Friday, citing a violation of the league's personal conduct policy.
York was arrested on August 23 in East Palestine, Ohio, during a prostitution sting operation. Following the arrest, York pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools. These charges stemmed from his involvement in the sting, which took place at an Ohio trailer park.
The NFL's decision to suspend York comes after he accepted responsibility for his actions. York has already missed the first three games of the season, which will count towards his suspension. He has not attended any games or league meetings so far this season, remaining away from the organization during the NFL's investigation.
York is eligible to return to his duties with the team on Tuesday, October 20. The 49ers will face the Washington Commanders the night before his return. York will be able to watch his first live game in Week 7 against the Atlanta Falcons and attend his first home game in Week 9 against the Las Vegas Raiders.
The suspension and fine highlight the NFL's stance on maintaining the integrity of its personal conduct policy. York's actions and subsequent legal plea have led to significant repercussions, both personally and professionally, as he navigates the consequences of his arrest and the league's disciplinary measures.
