A rollover crash on Interstate 35W in Fort Worth early Sunday morning left two people injured, with one of the drivers now facing charges. According to reports, the incident occurred just before 1:30 a.m. near Altamesa Boulevard, shortly after the intersection with I-20.
Gustavo Diaz, 34, is suspected of driving under the influence when his vehicle collided with another, causing the latter to flip over. The crash resulted in serious injuries to the occupants of the overturned vehicle. Claudia Luna, one of the victims, sustained a serious head injury and was found unconscious in the upside-down SUV.
She also suffered an open wound on her head and bruises on her body. Luna has since been released from the hospital and is recovering with her family.
The second person in the flipped vehicle remains in critical condition, though further details about their identity or condition have not been disclosed.
Following the crash, Diaz reportedly attempted to flee the scene but was quickly apprehended by Fort Worth police. This incident marks Diaz's second arrest in a week, as he was previously taken into custody for driving while intoxicated on October 18th.
The collision not only resulted in the rollover of the victim's vehicle but also caused both vehicles to veer towards a wall, according to reports. The Fort Worth police have charged Diaz in connection with the crash, and he remains in custody as the investigation continues.
The authorities have not released further information regarding the charges or any upcoming court appearances for Diaz. The investigation into the crash and its circumstances is ongoing.
Charges and allegations are not proof of guilt. Anyone charged is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
