Maurice Spears, a 34-year-old resident of Washington, D. C. , has been sentenced to 65 years and 180 days in prison for the sexual abuse of two women in 2024.
The sentencing was announced by U. S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro and follows Spears' conviction on May 14, 2026, by a Superior Court jury.
Spears was found guilty of six counts of first-degree sexual abuse, two counts of felony threats, and one count of misdemeanor sexual abuse. The court, presided over by Superior Court Judge Jason Park, also ordered that Spears be placed under lifetime supervised release and mandated that he register as a sex offender.
Details of the Crimes
According to the evidence presented by the government, the first incident occurred on April 15, 2024. Spears met the first victim for a date, which ended at his storage unit where he was living. There, he threatened to kill her and her children and claimed he would force her into prostitution.
Spears showed her a fake police badge and claimed connections with law enforcement. Over the next three days, he sexually assaulted her twice in the storage unit before taking her to a motel room in Virginia. Her family eventually rescued her, and she was taken to the hospital.
The second incident took place on July 26, 2024, when the second victim met Spears at a services provider for homeless individuals. Spears initially offered to help her obtain shoes but later began following her and refused to leave her tent. He threatened her, claiming connections with law enforcement and implying he could have people harm her.
Over the next five days, he repeatedly sexually assaulted her. The victim managed to call 911 and escape.
Arrest and Prosecution
Spears was arrested on September 9, 2024, and has remained in custody since then. The case was investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department, and the prosecution was led by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Sarah Roessler and Amanda Swanson.
U. S. Attorney Pirro emphasized the severity of Spears' actions, stating, "Two victims.
Eight days of violence, threats, and relentless sexual abuse. Today, the court delivered justice." She highlighted the sentence as a reflection of the fear Spears inflicted and the lives he attempted to destroy, ensuring he will not have the opportunity to prey on others in the community.
Interim Chief Jeffery Carroll of the Metropolitan Police Department joined U.S. Attorney Pirro in announcing the sentence, commending the efforts of the investigators and prosecutors involved in the case.
