YunHeng has issued a recall for its LandTale-branded adult portable bed rails due to significant safety concerns, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced. The recall is prompted by risks of serious injury or death from entrapment and asphyxiation, as the bed rails violate the mandatory standard for adult portable bed rails.
The CPSC stated that users could become entrapped within the bed rail or between the bed rail and the side of the mattress, posing a serious entrapment hazard and risk of death by asphyxiation. Additionally, the bed rails do not bear the required hazard warning labels, further exacerbating the safety risks.
The recalled bed rails, which have a white frame with black foam rubber grips and measure approximately 18 inches wide by 42 inches high, also fail to meet structural stability or retention strap requirements, creating a fall hazard. Furthermore, the push pins and push pin holes are incorrectly sized, posing a laceration hazard.
Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled bed rails immediately. YunHeng is offering a full refund for the recalled products. To receive the refund, consumers must destroy the bed rail by cutting off the handle’s foam grip, disassemble the product, and write "RECALLED" on the upper and lower rails in permanent marker.
A photo of the marked bed rails, along with the sender’s name written on paper, should be sent to LandtaleBedRailsRecall@outlook. com.
The recall also highlights the broader issue of product safety, as the CPSC continues its mission to protect the public from unreasonable risks associated with consumer products. The commission notes that deaths, injuries, and property damage from consumer product-related incidents cost the nation more than $1 trillion annually.
In a related development, Agrish has reannounced and expanded its recall of adult portable bed rails, which also violate the mandatory standard for adult portable bed rails. Similar to the LandTale bed rails, the Agrish models pose risks of entrapment, asphyxiation, falls, and lacerations. Consumers affected by the Agrish recall are instructed to stop using the bed rails and contact Agrish Direct for a full refund.
The CPSC emphasizes that federal law prohibits the sale of products subject to a commission-ordered recall or a voluntary recall undertaken in consultation with the CPSC. Consumers are urged to comply with recall instructions to ensure their safety and prevent potential injuries.
