According to an initial, single report, Ethiopia's Jewish community, known as Beta Israel, is steeped in ancient history, rumored to descend from the Queen of Sheba and King Solomon around 950 BC. However, this community faced significant adversity, particularly between the 1970s and 1990s under a Communist regime. Israel intervened with Operations Moses and Solomon, executing dramatic airlifts to evacuate over 20,000 Ethiopian Jews. Despite these efforts, a few thousand members of the community remain in Ethiopia.
