NASA's SpaceX Crew-13 mission is preparing for launch to the International Space Station with a scheduled liftoff no earlier than 11:10 a. m. EDT on October 1st.
The team of four astronauts includes spacecraft commander Jessica Watkins and pilot Luke Delaney, both from NASA. Joining them aboard the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft named Grace are Canadian Space Agency astronaut Joshua Kutryk and Roscosmos cosmonaut Sergey Teteryatnikov, serving as mission specialists. This mission will focus on science experiments aimed at benefiting future Moon and Mars explorations, including studies on human stem-cell derived tissues to assist with treating heart disease and Parkinson's disease.
This launch marks SpaceX's 13th crew rotation mission, and the Falcon 9 rocket booster chosen for this voyage will be flying its third mission. Crew-12 is set to return home after a brief overlap with Crew-13.
