Abbott has also directed collaboration with the Electric Reliability Council of Texas to audit these centers. The audits will scrutinize water consumption and efficiency practices. Data centers failing to comply with these reporting rules could face legal challenges and lose eligibility for certain permits. The board will update progress on enforcement activities by October 2026.
