Texas Activates Emergency Response for Expected Flooding

Governor Abbott mobilizes resources as severe weather threatens West Texas and the Panhandle.

Governor Greg Abbott has directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to activate state emergency resources in response to expected heavy rainfall and flooding in West Texas and the Texas Panhandle. Thunderstorms capable of producing heavy rainfall have been forecast to begin today and worsen mid-week, heightening the risk of excessive rainfall and flash flooding. Texans are strongly urged not to drive or walk through flooded roadways. Resources being deployed include Texas A&M Task Force 1 for swift water rescues, Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Wardens, and Texas DPS with Helicopter and Marine Units. TDEM will also coordinate with various agencies to monitor power, transportation, and environmental conditions.
