Texas Moves to Curb Rising Home Insurance Costs

In Texas, Governor Greg Abbott has announced significant measures by the Texas Department of Insurance to tackle the soaring cost of homeowners' insurance, which has surged 79% over six years. Abbott has empowered TDI to prioritize consumer interests, enforcing existing bulletins and proposing new rules to ensure fair practices. This includes accounting for FORTIFIED roof status in insurance rates and prohibiting denial based on component age. An Insurance Fraud Task Force will be established with law enforcement and other stakeholders, while Governor Abbott aims to further enhance consumer protections with the Legislature next session.
