Governor Abbott Distributes $5.8M in Grants to Support South Texas Veterans

Funds awarded to 21 organizations aim to enhance services for nearly 3,000 veterans in the region.

Governor Greg Abbott has allocated over five point eight million dollars to boost support for veterans in South Texas. Twenty-one organizations will benefit, expanding essential services to an estimated two thousand eight hundred twenty-seven veterans and their families. The Texas Veterans Commission is behind the grant administration, continuing efforts to streamline assistance following the removal of bureaucratic barriers last session. Notable funding includes four hundred thousand dollars each for Cameron County and Hidalgo County, aimed at financial assistance and housing for veterans. Meanwhile, additional grants will enhance services like elder care, mental health, and legal aid throughout the region. This initiative is part of a larger statewide effort to assist over one hundred twenty-five thousand veterans and their families.
