U.S. Space Academy Established by Executive Order

NASA leads efforts to develop the U.S. Space Academy, aiming for student intake by 2028 and a permanent facility by 2031.

A landmark Executive Order signed on August 28, 2026, has established the United States Space Academy. On September 9, NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman led the first meeting of the Presidential Commission on this initiative. NASA is actively seeking input from state governors to help determine potential locations for the academy. This search is guided by a Request for Information, with responses due by October 26, 2026. The commission has 120 days to develop its recommendations for President Trump. Plans for breaking ground on the new academy are set for no later than 2027. The academy expects to temporarily host its first class of 300 students by 2028 and aims for a permanent campus by 2031.
