According to an initial, single report from researchers at Sultan Qaboos University, there's a promising development in the fight against biofouling. The team has engineered surfaces that combine microscopic patterns with zinc oxide nanorods. These surfaces have been shown to effectively reduce the attachment of bacteria and microalgae.

Biofouling, a common problem on submerged marine and industrial equipment, can lead to significant maintenance challenges. This new technology could offer a potential solution by minimizing the accumulation of unwanted organisms.
