NASA Prepares Underwater Simulations for Moonwalk

The simulations aim to enhance future Moon and Mars landing missions.

NASA is gearing up for Moonwalk simulations happening beneath the surface of the water. These simulations are hosted at the Dale Reed Subscale Flight Research Laboratory, part of NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center in Edwards, California. Derek Abramson heads up engineering efforts, while Justin Hall serves as the chief pilot, with support from drone pilot Justin Link. The facility is crucial for advancing navigation systems intended for lunar and Martian landings. Central to these efforts is the SPLICE experiment, installed on the Alta-X drone, which assists spacecraft in landing precisely and identifying potential hazards.
