Ex-Soldier Sentenced for Telecom Hack

Former Army soldier gets prison time for telecom hacking and extortion scheme.

A former Army soldier, Cameron John Wagenius, aged 22, has been sentenced to 70 months in prison. Previously stationed in Texas, Wagenius conspired to hack into telecommunications companies’ databases. He accessed sensitive records and extorted these companies by threatening to release stolen data unless ransoms were paid. Beyond the prison sentence, he is also ordered to pay nearly 295 thousand dollars in restitution.
