Cuban National Convicted in Alien Smuggling Conspiracy

A 28-year-old Florida resident has been found guilty of running an international smuggling and money laundering operation.

In the Middle District of Florida, a federal jury has convicted Lazaro Alain Cabrera-Rodriguez, a 28-year-old Cuban national from Hialeah, Florida. Cabrera-Rodriguez was found guilty of participating in an international conspiracy involving alien smuggling and money laundering. Prosecutors revealed that his organization encouraged thousands of Cuban nationals to illegally enter the United States via the southern border. Smuggling fees ranged from fifteen hundred to forty thousand dollars, with some co-conspirators even chartering private planes for the transport of groups.
