Djibouti Signs Artemis Accords as 72nd Nation

In a noteworthy step for space collaboration, Djibouti has signed the Artemis Accords, becoming the 72nd nation, and the eighth from Africa, to endorse these principles for responsible space exploration. The official signing took place on September 14, 2026, at NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C. Mohamed Siad Douale, Djibouti's Ambassador to the United States, signed on behalf of his nation, accompanied by U.S. State Department Assistant Secretary for African Affairs, Frank Garcia, and NASA Deputy Administrator, Matthew Anderson. Djibouti's space ambitions have progressed rapidly since launching their national program in 2020 and two satellites in subsequent years using American Falcon 9 rockets. The Artemis Accords outline commitments to peaceful and sustainable exploration practices, which Djibouti has now pledged to uphold. The Department of State has extended its congratulations to Djibouti on this significant achievement.
