U.S. Imposes Visa Restrictions for Racial Discrimination

The U.S. targets foreign nationals involved in laws enabling discrimination or land seizures.

The United States has introduced a new visa restriction policy aimed at foreign nationals implicated in racially discriminatory practices. Announced on September 15, 2026, this policy is enacted under Section 212(a)(3)(C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act. It specifically targets those involved in the enactment or implementation of laws that allow for uncompensated land seizures or promote race-based discrimination. The U.S. is particularly concerned about racially motivated violence and acts of discrimination against Afrikaners and other minority groups in South Africa. The South African government has not addressed prior U.S. concerns on these issues. The visa restrictions may also extend to certain family members of those involved.
