The Australian and South Australian governments are jointly working to expedite the creation of more housing in the region. Key to this initiative are two Defence sites near the center of Adelaide. Hampstead Barracks has been earmarked for redevelopment as it was identified during a Defence Estate Audit. This audit highlighted properties that are surplus to Defence needs and have no direct link to strategic capabilities or safety needs, making them ideal for repurposing to meet housing demands.
