On September 22, 2026, leaders from 15 nations across the Americas, including the United States, convened under the Shield of the Americas agreement to outline a comprehensive plan for regional resilience. The joint statement emphasizes bolstering economic cooperation, securing critical mineral supply chains, and enhancing multilateral coordination. In a strong move against transnational threats, these countries will target 24 organizations linked to narcoterrorism with sanctions, asset freezes, and immigration restrictions. Moreover, they stressed the importance of respecting national sovereignty and plan to formally engage with the Organization of American States to further these initiatives.
